Saluting Military Spouses

Did you know that, while military spouses are well educated and highly qualified for a range of careers, they face a 24-percent unemployment rate and a 25-percent wage gap compared to their civilian counterparts?  Nearly 80 percent of these spouses want or need to work, according to the U.S. Department of Defense, yet misconceptions about their possible relocation is often a barrier to finding and maintaining a rewarding career.

This inability of spouses to obtain and retain fulfilling employment, the Department notes, compromises the quality of life of military families and the readiness of the military force.

That’s why the government launched the Military Spouse Employment Partnership (MSEP) in 2011 and why we are a proud employer partner, joining a cadre that, together, has hired nearly 140,000 military spouses.

It’s also why we’re encouraging our clients and others to get involved, as well. Okay, so you think it’s easier for us, since we have a virtual workforce. That may be true. But it’s not as hard for others as you might think.

The fact is that military spouses are motivated workers whose employment tenure is largely in line with that of the general population, the Department of Labor reports, that is, 4.2 years overall and 2.8 years for the 25-34 age group.

According to the most current statistics, there are more than 640,000 military spouses out there, and many of them want and need to work. If you want to help them and the defenders of our nation, learn more at https://msepjobs.militaryonesource.mil/msep/.
